UNN final year student completes 50km marathon for Enugu State New Governor

A final year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Asogwa Stanley, yesterday completed a 50 kilometre marathon in honour of Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The music student took off from Nsukka town around 8 am and arrived Enugu capital city in the evening.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it has arrested two women attempting to smuggle cocaine aboard a Qatar Airways flight to China.

Deborah Alaka and Chinyere Chukwujekwu were found to possess about 3 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

The arrest came few weeks after some Nigerians were executed in Indonesia for drug trafficking.

Suicide bomber screamed “Sai Buhari” before killing 5 in Maiduguri – Police

The Police in Borno said five persons died when a suicide bomber attacked an abattoir in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Aderemi Opadokun, stated this when he spoke with journalists in Maiduguri.

Okorocha Fires IMSU Vice Chancellor And Former ASUU Chairman Over Alleged Romance With Ogbonaya Onu;Appoints Son-In-Law As Chief Of Staff

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State Monday relieved the former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie of his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University (IMSU).

Awuzie, who only got to know of his sack when his replacement, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs came to resume duty, was clearly taken aback by the development.
There are indications that his removal may be connected to the recent strike action embarked by the staff of the university.

In a related development, Tajudeen Awoniyi, a herbalist residing in Oyo state has been arrested by men of the Oyo state police command for repeatedly having sex with two of his daughters and two of his nieces all aged 14, 15, 15 and 17 at his residence in Akinyele Local Government area in Oyo state.

While being paraded today at the state police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, Tajudeen denied the allegations but his denial was countered by the statements made against him by the young ladies.

University Of Nigeria Nsukka Shuts Down To Avert Students’ Riot

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has been closed down.

DAILY POST gathered that the institution’s management had asked students to vacate their hostels immediately.


A source told journalists that although the UNN management said the closure was a temporary break, it was actually meant to avert a riot which would have been carried out by the students within the week.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Monday took leaders of the state on a tour of the Government House, Port Harcourt allegedly vandalised by officials of the administration of the immediate past governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The Governor took the leaders to the Residential Quarter, Offices and the Banquet Hall where key furniture, televisions and electrical accessories were vandalised by the former administration.

Man Stabs Girl To Death In Calabar Over Handset (Graphic photo)

Last Friday in Calabar, Cross River state, a young man, now on the run, stabbed a girl in her early twenties simply identified as Queen to death over a mobile phone at Nelson Mandela street by Target road, Calabar South LGA.

CrossRiverWatch reliably gathered that a girl friend to the late Queen had collected Queen’s phone to help recharge the phone’s battery in her boyfriend’s place. Her boyfriend is however believed to have seen and like  the phone, deciding to keep the phone. Sources say all entreaties to convince the alleged assailant now at large by his girl friend that the phone belongs to her girl friend proved abortive, causing the girl to call the late Queen to  come over to her boyfriend’s house to demand for her phone. On arrival, the late Queen demanded for her phone, a request that was turned down by the young man.

No fewer than 69 persons burnt to death Sunday evening when a trailer loaded with Premium Motor Spirit otherwise known as petrol that was descending from Army barracks side of Onitsha Enugu express way lost control and rammed into the Asaba Motor Park at Upper Iweka, Onitsha and exploded.
