It may look odd to us, but in the Ethiopian Suri tribe, this enormous lip plate on their young ladies is actually a sign of beauty.

DailyMail reports that when girls hit puberty in the tribe, they have their bottom two teeth removed in a bizarre ritual before a small hole is cut into their bottom lip. A clay disc is then inserted into the hole, which is steadily increased, stretching the lip, much like flesh-tunnel piercings which have become popular with teenagers in the UK.

The larger the lip plate the more cows the girl's father can demand in dowry when his daughter is married - usually 40 for a small plate and 60 for a larger one. In recent years though, some young women from the tribes are refusing to have their lips pierced, and removing their teeth can be a violent and sometimes traumatising task.

A video has been obtained by AFP of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau taking responsibility for the Nyanya bomb blast.

In the video, Shekau described the bombing as a “tiny incident”, and warned of many more to come.
Shekau said,

“Let the world know that we were responsible for the bombing within Abuja in an area called Nyanya. [President] Jonathan, you are a lame duck. Jonathan, you are now too small for us. We can only deal with your grand masters like Obama the president of America. Even they cannot do anything to us. We are more than them.”

Boko Haram: Women Clergy Vow To Strip, Point Breasts to God in protest

 Nigerian  clergy women  today trooped out in number in protest of the recent happenings in the country. The group which comprises female Pastors, Prophetesses, Rev. Sisters, Pastor’s wives and evangelists say they were ready to use every means, including their ‘breast’ to pray to God for intervention. The women of God said they were ready to use the power of women as manifested in the bible to rise against all kinds of violence in the country.

The group who were all clad in black attires said they were ready to strip naked before God and pray to God, using the very ‘breast’ the Boko Haram insurgents sucked at some point to reach out to God in Protest.

Speaking during the protest march that metamorphosed into a courtesy call at the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission in Abuja, where the Association took their protest to the Executive Director, one of the women of God, Pastor Mama Praise said, ‘’ we stand with the authority of the most high and declare today that all forms of violence in our land be put to an abrupt end.

These Boko Haram members were all born by women, and at some point, we fed them with our breast, the same breast will be a curse unto them if we expose it while crying to God and pointing it to the high heavens.’’

Man Beheads Two Year Old Boy After Raping his Mother in Ogun State (Photo)

 The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle aged man, for raping a woman and beheading her two year old boy in Ofada town in Obafemi/Owode local government area of the State.


The suspect, identified as ‎Mamodu Bashir Ibrahim, reportedly trailed the woman into the bush where she had gone to ease herself, pounced on her despite the baby tied to her back and dragged both into an uncompleted building. Police believe the man then raped the woman and stabbed her. He was also alleged to have severed the boy’s head.

Another Mob in Lagos Beats Up, almost Lynches a Mad Woman with N100,000, BlackBerry

A woman said to be mentally-challenged escaped being lynched by an angry mob on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught with N100,000, two ATM cards, two BlackBerry phones and an android phone. Incident occurred around Onabanjo Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos State, around 10am.

A resident, James Ogunkoya, told Punch that when some youths saw the woman with some money, they trailed her into a compound. The youths, who suspected her of being a ritual killer, pounced on her and beat her to a pulp.

Several soldiers operating in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, which is the hub of attacks by Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group, have accused top officers of siphoning much of the funds for counter-insurgency.

In confidential interviews with Sahara Reporters, the soldiers said their generals and other officers were enriching themselves even as the soldiers in the frontline of the fight against the terrorist group live in squalid conditions and suffer from extreme deprivation as well as lack of basic facilities.

The soldiers criticized the operational tactics used by the top brass of the Army who decide how to run the counter-offensive against Boko Haram insurgents. The soldiers, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of strict anonymity, claimed that it was the common view of soldiers that their commanding officers’ decisions were informed primarily by a desire to enrich themselves at the expense of the welfare and morale of soldiers and the effectiveness of the overall fight against Boko Haram.
