DIVORCE COURT:Housewife seeks divorce over husband’s drunken habit

Ilorin – A 28-year-old housewife, Hawau Ahmed of Niger Area, Ilorin, on Thursday prayed an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve her four-year-old marriage to Ahmed Ibrahim for alleged drunkenness.Hawau told the court that her husband always drinks to an embarrassing level and vomits on the street.

“My husband does not have time for me and my children; instead he prefers to hang out with friends at beer joints.“Our marriage was contracted in 2009 and had produced two female children, Ketim, and Kaosarat, but, I have been the one responsible for their up-keep.“My Lord, I want an end to this marriage, I cannot withstand the shame my husband has brought to the family anymore,” she pleaded with the court.

Responding, the defendant objected to the prayer of his wife, saying that he still love his wife and the children.I only hang out with friends to forget my worries since I have lost my security job.“I want the court to kindly help me appeal to my wife not to leave me.“I promise to quit alcohol and stay at home to spend more time with my family,” he said.Ibrahim prayed the court for adjournment to enable him reconcile with his wife and children.The presiding Judge, Mr Ibrahim Abdulquadri adjourned the case to Nov.5, for possible reconciliation between the parties or continuation of hearing.
