Imo Poly Rector shuns summons to Okija shrine

 Fr. Wence Madu,

The Rector of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Rev. Fr. Wence Madu, who was recently summoned to Okija Shrine in respect of complaints made against him by some staff of the institution, has said he would never respond to the invitation.

Fr. Madu, while speaking to the press in Owerri, also confirmed that he received another letter last week from operators of the shrine to remind him of the earlier summons.

“As a Catholic priest, I am a priest of the highest deity. It is absurd for me to honour an invitation from a lower deity,” Fr. Madu said.

While noting that anybody who had issues with him or the institution should follow all legitimate procedures in pursuing his grievances, the Rector also said he could not maltreat or preside over injustice as a priest.

“The origin of the letter is a ripple effect of what I am doing to deal with the issue of fake results that is everywhere and to stop the lecturers in their extortion, which has sadly become a widespread way of life in the institution,” Fr. Madu explained.

The Rector disclosed that some people had been sent to the institution’s disciplinary committee, stressing that they were already afraid that they might lose their jobs.

“The council was a bit lenient last week when they met and stepped down some of the lecturers.

‘’This is why they are resorting to panic measures to intimidate the authorities,” Fr. Madu added.

He affirmed that he would not be deterred from his quest to sanitize the institution, with a view to ensuring quality teaching and learning in the polytechnic.
