Twenty Local Government Chairmen and their deputies have been sworn-in in Awka, the Anambra State Capital by the State Governor, Peter Obi.
This follows a clean sweep of the Anambra State Local Government election over the weekend.
The newly elected chairmen and their deputies were later given their Certificates of Return by the Chairman of the State Electoral Commission.
This is the first local council election in Anambra State since 1998.
Although there were many calls for the postponement of the elections, it held on Saturday, January 11, and has been described by many as free and fair.
A break down of the election results shows that APGA won 20 LGAs out of 21 LGAs.
*Nnewi North LGA cancelled due to late arrival of election materials
Councillorship Election:
APGA won 304 council wards out of 327 council wards.
PDP won 12
PPA won 1
UPP won 1
