Troops from the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri have recorded yet another decisive victory over Boko Haram insurgents attempting to seize Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
SaharaReporters learnt that soldiers stationed in Konduga yesterday repelled an attack by Boko Haram fighters who tried once again to capture the town as a gateway to Maiduguri.

Nigerian troops have scored several significant triumphs over Boko Haram insurgents who have launched no fewer than four attacks on Konduga. Hundreds of insurgent fighters have died in the battles and Nigerian soldiers have also seized vehicles and armored personnel carriers from the terrorist group.

The insurgent group had captured most of the weaponry and hardware in previous battles with ill-motivated and ill-equipped Nigerian security forces.

In one of the defining battles for control of Konduga, soldiers killed Mohammed Bashir, a top Boko Haram commander who was credited with issuing recent video recordings posing as the Islamist sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.

Also, Nigerian soldiers reportedly fought for several hours before subduing a group of insurgents who attacked Benisheikh, a town in Borno State.
