The
umbrella body of Igbo Youths Worldwide, the Ohaneze N’digbo Youths,
yesterday warned the 19 Northern Governors to provide security to
safeguard the lives and properties of Igbo indigenes resident in their
states against threats of electoral violence and attacks during the
Presidential elections.
According
to the President of the Ohaneze N’digbo Youths, Mazi Okechukwu
Isiguzoro, although they have asked Igbos in the North to remain calm,
any attack on the Igbos in the Northern states will be met with massive
reprisal attacks on Northern Indigenes resident in Eastern and
South-South states.
Mazi
Isiguzoro said that the call for adequate security for Igbo indigenes
became necessary due to available security report on plot by some
elements to instigate violence against the Igbos, cripple their
businesses and take over their homes in the Northern States over their
show of support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.
Speaking
in Yenagoa during the inauguration of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the
Ohaneze N’digbo Youths led by Chief Chinedu Athurchukwu, Mazi
Isiguzoro warned the Governor Babangida Aliyu-led Northern Governors
Forum to assure the indigenes of the Eastern States of their safety or
face mass exodus of Igbos from the Notrhen states.
“Although
we have asked the Igbo indigenes in the Northern states to remain calm
and stay focused on voting for President Goodluck Jonathan during the
Presidential poll, we have uncover plot by some elements in the North
to promote tension and cripple the billions of Naira worth of
businesses owned by Igbo Indigenes. They planned to take over their
businesses too.”
