 In September 2015, I got a call from Dr Adedeji Adeleke, a long time family friend, telling me his son had fathered a baby girl with my cousin, Sophia Momodu. I rejoiced with him as any reasonable soul would do. He apologised that he had not called all along because he wasn’t sure if Sophie’s baby was going to turn out a fake one like that of two others who had turned up at his doorstep. But mercifully, according to Dr Adeleke, Sophie’s baby passed the DNA Test by over 98 percent and he was elated. I congratulated him again as a proud grandfather. He said he would like to meet me with Sophie since Sophie’s dad, Uncle Jibola Momodu, passed on years ago and Sophie mentioned me as her cousin.

A purported plan by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt all foreign (non-Naira) transactions on Naira ATM, Debit and Credit cards from January 1, 2016, has met with opposition from some Nigerian students studying abroad, who said it would put them under unnecessary constraints.

A communication by the apex bank to some commercial banks said the decision to halt the transactions was to shore up the nation’s foreign exchange reserve.

The students wielding placards took to the streets in protest, calling on the Federal Government to find an alternative solution to the problem.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the N6.8 trillion budget for 2016 presented by President Muhammadu Buhari before the National Assembly as a big fraud.

The Chairman of the National Electricity Regulation Commission, Mr. Sam Amadi has said  that the Presidency has intervened in the lingering dispute between Barth Nnaji's  Geometric Power and Emeka Offor's owned Enugu Electricity Distribution Company over the lease agreement granted to the 141 megawatts (MW) Aba Power Plant.

Mr. Amadi said that NERC has developed a settlement plan which the Presidency was reviewing for adoption. He said the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has had a meeting with the parties preparatory to eventual resolution of the issue, adding that a win-win resolution of the issue is expected soon.

Nigerian Army, Shiites Muslim Sect In War Of Words Over Zaria Killings

On Saturday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, reportedly escaped an assassination attempt after members of the Muslim sect, Shiites allegedly attacked his convoy in Zaria, Kaduna State.


However members of the Shiites Islamic Sect has released a press statement detailing the circumstances of the attack.



The sect claimed that the soldiers attacked first aiming to disrupt their peaceful flag hoisting.

The statement which was signed by Ibrahim Usman read “At noon today, armed soldiers were seen in the precincts of Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria, where members of the Islamic Movement were to carry out the hoisting of flag to usher in the new month of Maulud, the birth of the Holy Prophet of Islam.

Breaking News: Court refuses to stop Kogi election

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to stop  the Independent National Electoral Commission from holding Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Kogi state.

The judge made the ruling today in the five consolidated suits filed by several parties over the 21 November governorship election, which INEC declared as inconclusive, though the All Progressives candidate, Audu Abubakar was leading his PDP rival by over 41,000 votes. INEC insisted election must be conducted in 91 polling units to declare the winner. Matters were further complicated with the death of Audu  and with INEC’s directive to APC to substitute its candidate. APC did so by submitting Yahaya Bello’s name.
