LADY GAGA has shockingly revealed that she was smoking up to FIFTEEN joints a day to numb the pain of her agonising hip injury
The eccentric singer admitted to Attitude magazine in a mind-blowing interview that she became addicted to marijuana in an effort to numb the pain of her hip injury which forced her to cancel her world tour earlier this year.
The 27-year-old admitted to the gay magazine: "It was a habit that eventually occurred when the pain got so bad with the hip.
“I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was."
Gaga eventually had hip surgery to fix the excruciating issue, but before she cancelled her world tour in February, she kept turning to the Class B drug to help her perform.
She said: "F*** if I know what hurts the most, you know? I would break the habit and it would sneak back in and I would break it and sneak back in."
Marijuana has increasingly become accepted in the US, with several states making use of the drug completely legal. But the drug, which can cause feelings of paranoia, red eyes and impaired motor skills, is still illegal in most other states– and in the UK.
And it's not just joints that Gaga is partial to. The 'Applause' singer admitted that she dabbles in Molly, a type of MDMA popular with ravers and celebs including Miley Cyrus.
And a former pal blabbed about her cocaine use in earlier days, claiming that the blonde once was so desperate for the Class A drug that she rubbed remnants from the carpet onto her gums.
In an effort to wean herself off the marijuana, Gaga enrolled herself in a rehab session with performance artist Marina Abramovic– and STARVED herself for 72 hours
Gaga told Attitude: "Marina said, ‘OK, you’re coming to my house — no television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art’."
And the bizarre rehab escalated, with Gaga being left blindfolded in the woods to connect with nature.
Gaga recalled: "She put me in the woods for three hours blindfolded and said, ‘I need you to find your way home. We will be here silent to make sure you don’t fall off any cliffs’. There were cliffs all around.
“So I was walking and I started to cry because I hadn’t felt so connected to the earth for so long. Just being me, with the forest and the sound of the birds and the running water, but there was nothing but me and my pure talent to save me."
After the intense sessions, the singer, who released her new album Artpop to mixed reviews, completely stopped smoking the drug.
But she confessed that her dirty habit has now returned so that she can deal with the mounting pressure of her career.
She said: "Now I smoke a little bit at night just, you know, for fun. But not to cope — that’s the difference. I’m the soberest I’ve ever been in the past five years."
