A middle-aged man, identified as Emeka Okoro from Agbabo Isu in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by a team of policemen from, Onicha divisional police station, for allegedly killing 3 persons in the local government.

Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi state police public relations officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said though he was yet to get details of the act, signals from the Onicha police division indicated that the suspect had been arrested and detained at the police station.

Anyanwu said information available to the command showed that there was growing tension in the area, adding that efforts were being made to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the incident and ensure continued peace in the community.

He said a team of policemen from the command’s headquarters would be deployed to the community immediately to forestall any break down of law and order.

Speaking in a telephone interview, the coordinator of Onicha development centre, Hon Ogbonnaya Igboke, who regretted the action of the middle-aged man, said the victims include one Mr Peter Awoke from Umuniko Isu, Mr Sunday Nwaigwe also from Umuniko Isu and Mr Ega of Agbabo all in Onicha local government area of the state.

Igboke disclosed that the suspect first attacked Nwaigwe, a local cattle rearer on his farm while grazing his cattle at about 2pm yesterday and the others two victims who say how Nwaigwe was killed tried to escape but the suspect ran after them and killed them.

The coordinator said the suspected killer took to his heels after perpetrating the dastardly act.
He said before the arrest of the suspect by the police, there was heightened tension in the community as villagers who got hold of him attempted to lynch him.
Igboke said corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the Onicha General Hospital mortuary and efforts were being made by security agencies to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the place.
