PETITIONS BY CONCERNED WOMEN VOICES OVER SALIENT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE STRANGE DEATH OF DR THOMAS
Sequel to the Press Conference it organized on
Thursday October 29th, 2015,
Concerned Women Voices, a coalition of women’s rights groups,
professional women and female celebrities, have written a petition to the
Inspector General of Police. In their petition, they said:
‘’WE WANT THE TRUTH ABOUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES
SURROUNDING THE DEATH OF THIS YOUNG FEMALE CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN IN HER
HOME. THE TRUTH WHICH CAN ONLY BE GOTTEN WITH A THOUROUGH, UNBIASED
INVESTIGATION BY THE POLICE.
Sequel to the Press Conference it organized on
Thursday October 29th, 2015,
Concerned Women Voices, a coalition of women’s rights groups,
professional women and female celebrities, have written a petition to the Lagos State House of Assembly. In their
petition, they asked:
·
If Dr. Idiodi-Thomas was indeed a ‘’psychiatric patient’’ how
sick was she? And why was she still allowed to treat patients (sick children)
up until 3 days before her death?
·
As a medical doctor and husband to a mentally sick person,
what conscious effort did Dr. Babafemi Thomas take to ensure that the wife
comes to no harm, and that she was seeking medical attention?
·
Why are there three versions out there as to how she
‘’committed suicide’’? Version one she jumped from the balcony. Version two:
the husband found her in front of their bedroom door; and version three, she
jumped from the water tanker.
·
As husband, care giver and a medical doctor living with a
‘’psychiatric patient’’, didn’t Dr. Babafemi Thomas think he has the responsibility
of ensuring that all doors are carefully
locked and keys kept away, to prevent possible suicidal acts as being projected
here?
·
Has the police interrogated neighbours at their 16 Gani
Dabiri resident in Ajao Estate, about the way and manner the couple lived and
if they had on any occasion heard noises or fights from their flats?
·
Has it been confirmed that if the Thomases lived on the
ground floor or first/second floor of the building in order to ascertain the
jump down theory?
·
Did Dr. Babafemi Thomas in shock cry out for help and
assistance from neighbours when he found his wife unresponsive, severely
injured and almost dead?
·
Living in a compound of 5-6 flats, and Dr. Idiodi-Thomas
having jumped from her flat or from the water tank, how come other neighbours
didn’t hear a fall or a thunderous sound that could have attracted them to come
out?
·
Why aren’t the police treating this case as homicide until
otherwise proven? Why was Dr. Babafemi Thomas quizzed and released. What PROOF
do the police have that he didn’t in anyway play a part in his wife’s death?
·
Are the police relying on the alleged statement attributed to
late Dr Hestianna’s mother that her son-in-law didn’t kill her daughter? Was
she there in their home the night of the incident?
·
We learnt an autopsy has been done already. BY WHOM?
FRIENDS/COLLEAGUES OF DR BABAFEMI THOMAS WHO ARE PATHOLOGISTS?
·
Why are the Idiodi/Thomas families in a hurry to bury their
daughter and wife next week (Thursday Nov 12th) when there are so
many unanswered questions? DR HESTIANNA IDIODI-THOMAS SHOULDN’T BE BURIED
BEFORE INVESTIGATIONS ARE COMPLETED.
·
PLEASE NOTE: THE CASE HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED TO COURT.
We are
calling for an INDEPENDENT AUTOPSY AND CORONER’S INQUEST TO BE CARRIED OUT.
NMA, LUTH and LASUTH cannot sit and judge on one of their own. We cannot also leave investigation on this
suspicious death to the police only.
Fiat justiatia, ruat coelem - let justice be done
though the heavens fall.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully,

Benjamin Odeh Esq.
There are several unanswered questions and issues that
the Lagos State Police Command need to investigate and provide answers to:
1.
According
to reports, when she was brought to LUTH, there were marks on her body and she
had a fractured skull and swollen head, which was almost unrecognizable. How did she sustain these injuries?
2.
In
a statement attributed to the PRO Lagos State Command, there were violent marks
on her body. How did she get those marks?
3.
Until
sufficiently proven otherwise, shouldn’t the police treat this case as a
homicide case and not suicide which it seems is what they are currently doing?
4.
Have
the police gone to the deceased’s home to talk to neighbours, and take pictures
of the ‘’crime scene’’.
5.
Are
the police just relying on what the deceased’s husband Dr. Babafemi Thomas and
statement attributed to the deceased’s mother as the ‘’gospel truth’’?
6.
If
Dr. Idiodi –Thomas was a psychiatric patient, how come LUTH allowed to still be
treating children even up to three days before her death?
7.
The
three versions of how she died are more worrisome – version one, that “she
committed suicide” version two, that “she jumped from the balcony of their
Flat” version three, “that she jumped from the water tanker”.
8.
Furthermore,
living in a house of 5-6 Flats, how come that no neighbor of theirs heard of
any thundering sound of a human being that jumped from a water tanker or balcony
of a house to the ground?
A young professional woman and mother of two infant
children cannot just sustain fatal injuries in her home and just one word,
SUICIDE would be used to explain her death within days. We are indeed tired of
women dying questionable deaths in their homes, and the police not doing
anything. The life in the home is as important as the life outside the home and
part of police responsibility to protect lives and properties.
Sir, as a tested and trusted police officer bestowed
with the privilege of having both forensic and legal mind, we urge you to
promptly wade into this case by constituting a crack team of independent
investigators from outside Lagos State to conduct a fresh investigation into
the violent and unfortunate death of this woman. WE GOT INFORMATION THAT THE
FAMILY HAVE DECIDED TO BURY DR. HESTIANNA IDIODI THOMAS ON THURSDAY NOVEMBER 12th.
THE TRUTH MUST NOT BE BURIED WITH HER.
Fiat justiatia, ruat coelem - let justice be done
though the heavens fall.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully,
