PHOTO: Abandoned Baby Picked In Kaduna

A baby girl suspected to be about two-months-old was Tuesday night found in Sabon-Tasha area of Chikun local government of Kaduna metropolis.
The baby was said to have been abandoned by her mother near a private school.

A staff of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Caleb Harry, who picked the baby, told LEADERSHIP that she was found around 8:30 pm.

“It was my children that saw the baby crying who ran to the house to inform me. My neighbours and I went to the place where the baby was seen and brought her home.

“We have been wondering why a mother after giving birth would abandon her baby and run away,” she said.

Also speaking on the issue, Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Sunny Obaro, told LEADERSHIP that from Tuesday night when they found the baby till yesterday, nobody had come to claim the baby.

He said it was regrettable that a young girl would abandon her baby after giving birth.
“We have been feeding the baby with pap and water and we are preparing to hand her over to the Chikun local government welfare unit,” he said
