Assemblies Of God Suspends General Superintendent over Alleged Misconduct

Proffesor Paul Emeka
The Suspended General Superintendent

The Assemblies of God Church Nigeria (AGN) has suspended her General Superintendent (GS), Rev. Paul Emeka, over allegation of misconduct, highhandedness, financial misappropriation and other sundry matters.

The church also decried that it had degenerated to its lowest ebb since his regime as he had single handedly ran the church as a private establishment.

The General committee of the church has henceforth appointed the Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Chidi
Okoroafor, as the acting General Superintendent to pilot the affairs of the church in line with the church’s constitution and bye-law.

In a swift reaction, the suspended GS has described his ordeal as the handiwork of his enemies in the church as well as a political and ethnic gang-up against him, noting that such blackmail was aimed at tarnishing his image but believed that he would surmount his perceived detractors.

A letter dated March 6, 2014 titled “Re: Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka, former General Superintendent, Assemblies of God, Nigeria” and signed Rev. Dr. John Ikoni, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor and Rev. Dr. Vincent Alaje; the General Secretary, Acting General Superintendent and General Treasurer respectively, stated, “Please be informed that at the meeting of the General Committee, Assemblies of God, Nigeria held on March 6 in the Conference Hall of the National Secretariat, Enugu, the General Committee suspended the Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka from membership of Assemblies of God, Nigeria.
“Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka who until this development served as General Superintended of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, therefore ceases to function in any of the duties assigned to the Office of the General Superintendent in the Constitution and Bye-Laws of the General Council of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, also with effect from today”, the letter added.

The church also accused the former General Superintendent of being autocratic in behaviour, financial mismanagement; abuse of power and above all taking the church to court, which is tantamount to tarnishing the image of the church and bringing it to public ridicule.

Among other matters leveled against the suspended General Superintendent include withdrawal of N200 million from the Pension Fund without due process, spending N250 million for the alleged acquisition of a property in Germany without the approval of the Executive Committee (EC), false claims to proprietorship of the Evangel University, false claim to the rank of Professor, and use of the same after his name with the attendant embarrassment to the church, among others.

The suspended General Superintendent, however, said that those allegations were targeted at discrediting him, adding that those who are championing the suspension issue are doing so because of their selfish and parochial interests.

  1. People of God, with Jesus Joy, we write to you after weeks of being off air especially with the news of what has been happening in and around the GENERAL COUNCIL OF ASSEMBLIES OF GOD NIGERIA. Lots of people have said so many things that are even unholy especially those whom we have counted and regarded as "HOLY" men whom have overnight turned into something we cannot imagine.

The truth still remains that the "so-called" problem in AG Nigeria is because of quest for powers and greediness. God's people we can no longer keep quiet and watch these people intimidate both members and pastors.

They claim to suspend the General Superintendent - Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka in an illegal meeting that was filled with lies. Why? Because he wants to maintain sanity in the church.

Lots and loads of messages has flown in the air and even in the news papers in these past weeks and those messages are filled with lies and abuses that are unheard of even in the Christendom. And I pause and ask myself, ARE WE STILL BRETHREN?

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD NIGERIA AND ITS MEMBERS cannot and will never stand for evil.

We still have REV. PROF. PAUL EMEKA as the General Superintendent of AG Nigeria and no one is doubting or countering that.

Personally, I can't imagine in a corporate organization, having one man "eat the so-called money (which today they will say its 250m and tomorrow 450m and so on)" he is being accused of without having about two or three men joining him to do so.

Let us not be blinded by the intimidation[s] of these people. No matter the way you view it, THE CHURCH IS STILL MARCHING ON AND THE GATES OF HELL WILL NEVER PREVAIL AGAINST IT.

They claim to be in charge and are telling lies to God's people. But for how long will they cover the truth?

Some folks keep asking why The cable network is off air and I keep telling them, GO AND ASK THE PEOPLE THAT CLAIM TO BE IN CHARGE.

Some would also come and ask why the PEOPLE IN CHARGE keep having secret meetings and I still keep telling them to GO AND ASK THE PEOPLE THAT CLAIM TO BE IN CHARGE because if you are in charge, you won't be having secret meetings, locking offices, accusing people falsely, etc. and even using foul words even in the church of JESUS CHRIST.

People of God, there are lots/loads of things to talk about but the truth is and still remains that REV. PROF. PAUL EMEKA is clean of what he is being accused of. Let's stand for the truth.

I keep wandering by my little self: "what if Christ comes?" Are they coming to meet us in HEAVEN WITH ALL THESE LIES?

    Think about it.

    1. I am a member of Assemblies of God Church, which is among the reasons I am devastated and ashamed hearing what is happening in the general council and all these accusations and counter accusations on the person of the General Superintendent on the one hand and on the other members of the highest ruling body in the Assemblies of God governing echelon on the other hand.
And I think anyone who will want to comment on this matter should be open minded and speak in the fear of God and not just talk because you are given mouth. As people of God we must not support any blindly or for personality reasons or even for the gain. God wants those who will stand for the truth no matter whose ox is gored. Our God is not a respecter of personalities. I will want to tell you that it is an anomaly for the elders to be present while the goat dies on its tethers? We will be held accountable for such inadequacies.

Is it possible that the other leaders fabricated lies against the Superintendent? No, I don’t think so. Consciously or unconsciously our dear beloved superintendent must have done things that had lent credence to the numerous allegations.
I have nothing against the GS as a person. He is a spiritual leader and I love him. But do you think that all the allegations were born out of jealousy, quest for power and greedness? How many times was his immediate predecessor accused of any of these things that are levied against him? I know and I am sure that AG Nigeria was founded before he Prof. Paul Emeka was born: is it right for him to parade himself as the GENERAL OVERSEER?

You may accuse me of taking sides, but the fact that a house was bought in Germany worth a whopping sum of N250 million without the consent of his co-leaders speaks a lot. I overheard the women wing of which his wife heads lament of their wrapper changed to something that looks inferior to the former one. What does this tell you about politics?

It is good that we always carry others along in our areas of responsibilities. As the Bible say, when we see ourselves as being too much we neglect those around us and we do things only in our own ways. Those things we do this way no matter how sincere are not always right.

I do not know why he has to do so, but I can point out that my beloved president erred by going to court. I know he knows what this action of his means to the body of Christ. A Christ like life is observed in humility. Power and money when we are not careful has a way of playing tricks the holder.

I pray that in a Christ like manner all the parties involved will play their roles to bring glory to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Because the church of Christ must certainly match on and nothing, man or the gate of hell cannot stop it. Amen!
