An armed men numbering over 50 stormed Aji Community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area on Thursday, killing a middle-aged man, identified as Oforma Itodo.

According To Daily Post,  the incident happened at the family compound where the deceased and other members of his family were observing some funeral rites for their mother, who was buried four days earlier.

A family source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the assailants invaded their compound in the early hours of March 3, 2014 and accosted Oforma with machetes, axes and guns.

He explained that the armed men refused to disclose the purpose of their mission.

“They made straight to Oforma who was caring his little baby, forced the baby out of his hands and started butchering him with matchets at every part of his body.

“They later dragged him out of the compound to an unknown place where they finally finished him and fled.
“We are yet to know what may have caused the attack barely four days of our mother’s burial”, he lamented.

The family source further disclosed that the assailants were not on masque, stressing that “we know a good number of them; James Itodo who is popularly known in the community as Otiyo, was the first person to matchet him”.

He noted that among the assailants were Goddy Ojobo (a.k.a Ekodike), Ogworuma a herbalist, John Ugbanwa, Okwudili Onogwu, Okwuapeja Ezelungwo, Paul Onoja, Burnet hunchback (D.J), Anthony Ugbabe, Charlie and Ezeogili whom their surnames could not be ascertained as at press time.

The family wondered why the assailants, who were operating in the name  "neighbourhood watch of the community", did not take the victim to Enugu Ezike Police Station for interrogation, if he had committed any crime.

The deceased Oforma popularly known in the community as “One Kaine man” was said to have been out of the community for quite sometime.

It was  learnt that the deceased had petitioned the Inspector General of Police over threat to his life.

A community source alleged that the killer group were not members of neigbhourhood watch of the community but paid agents of a top government official.
