486 Suspects Arrested In Abia Are Travellers -Omeri

It have now been confirmed by the military that one of those they arrested in Abia is actually a "most wanted" kingpin of Boko Haram.

"The statement, entitled: “Update on the screening of 486 arrested travellers in Abia State: Wanted terror kingpin nabbed,” reads: “A terror kingpin in the list of wanted terrorists of security forces in Nigeria have been detected in the ongoing screening of the 486 suspects nabbed while travelling in over 33 Hiace Hummer buses at night along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway last Sunday.

“So far, other security agencies, including the para-military, have joined the screening to ascertain the status of the remaining suspects. Those identified as possible security risk or illegal immigrants are expected to be identified for further action.

“Meanwhile, the identified terror kingpin has been taken into custody. Further development will be communicated to you in due course.”

In a related development, security operatives have been deployed in boundary communities in Rivers and Abia states to smoke out the escapee suspects, as it was feared that they may have taken refuge in the villages, since their movement to Port Harcourt was aborted.

It was also gathered that the security agents have been asked to comb the communities for strangers. The security operatives are to liaise with community leaders and youths, who would easily know strangers among them.

According to a military source, “the escape of two buses is a source of worry. Since soldiers who intercepted the buses, the suspects may have run into the boundary communities, security operatives have been deployed in the area to search for them. It will be easy to find them out if they are in the communities.”

Now that the military has made this announcement, kindly go round facebook and note anyone who called the arrest "ethnic profiling", "hoax", "charade" etc. They are all Boko Haram sympathizers at Facebook and possibly in real life.

No amount of politics would have made anyone complain about an arrest made by a northern commander of the Nigerian Army except overt or covert sympathy and support for Boko Haram activities.

The same people are usually the first to announce how many people Boko Haram killed but once a boko bomb fail to detonate or their members arrested they go on the defensive and employ all manner of subterfuge and flowery language dipped in Elizerbethan sophistry to hoodwink the gullible. These Boko Haram supporters cut across all tribes of Nigeria.

They are usually the first to abuse our soldiers and post with glee articles that seek to demoralize our soldiers and weaken their capacity to fight. The objective is simply to create widespread fear and also force the military to revolt or execute blue on blue massacres. Politically, they seek the same objective pursued by Boko Haram at the early stage of the rise of Abubakar Shakau 1. He pointedly demanded that this christian president must leave office or he will attack Aso Rock and kill the president. It is all on video and you can watch for yourself. Boko Haram facebook supporters want exactly the same thing: Jonathan must be disgraced out even if it means innocent Nigerians dying in the process and the Nigerian military destroyed as a cohesive and coherent unit.

These people are as bad as Boko Haram because they make it possible for Boko Haram to achieve their political and even terror objectives. Don't listen to them if they tell you they are offering critical views. That's a cover please. They know exactly what they were asked to do by the same people who sponsor Boko Haram. While many accidentally followed them to support terror activities, the core is the issue.
It is your duty to identify the core and make him/her stop supporting terrorists.

If you have identified them using their posts in the past 48 hours go to their wall and type #youareaboko.

We need to start shaming these people and remove our gloves of niceness which they have exploited to rain terror on the rest of us. No decent political analyst or commentator will attack Nigerian soldiers for stopping suspicious vehicles and screening the occupants at a time the nation is at war with local and global terrorists. If anyone raised such issues, the person is a Haramist.

Make no mistake about his: it is not all those that oppose the president support Boko Haram at facebook and twitter. Some genuinely seek to replace the president through a democratic process. They are even angry with the president because they perceive him to be soft on the terrorists. If you go to the wall of those ones (mostly APC supporters) you will not read them dispute or impute motives to the soldiers arrest of the 486 travelers. At best they will simply wait for further information. But the bokophilics have been about disputing, denying abusing and generally stoking inter-ethnic hatred. Later today I might name them one by one if they refuse to change.

Is your facebook friend a Boko Haram supporter? Tell him this morning #youareaboko.

Thanks be to God for saving PH and making God's own state the waterloo of the terrorists. Evil MUST NOT Prevail.

Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, said on Wednesday that the 486 people arrested by security operatives on Sunday, in Abia State, were travellers.

Omeri disclosed this at a joint news conference organised by the centre in Abuja.

The coordinator said the arrest of the travellers was not targeted at any group of persons or individual, but done in view of the general security situation in the country.

He said when the suspects were interrogated, one of them, who had been on the watch list of the Department of State Security Services since 2007, was identified.

Omeri said that the incident further led to the questioning of the suspects, who were travelling in a convoy of over 30 buses with none of them having up to N1,000.

He said, “Clearly, their mission was suspicious and had to be thoroughly investigated; we, therefore, appeal for the understanding of the public in allowing our security agencies carry out their legitimate duties.”

On June 21 governorship election in Ekiti, the coordinator said contrary to reports, the DSS did not arrest any person in the state over alleged thumb printing of ballot papers ahead of the poll.

He said, “The service has not seen nor apprehend anyone with ballot papers.

“Politicians are hereby cautioned against dishing out false information through the media with a view to overheating the system.”
