The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has congratulated the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi for leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Okorocha said Obi’s decision showed that he saw the dire need for the Igbos to be “competitors and not spectators” in national affairs.

In a press statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, he said “Chief Obi’s latest action has only shown that he has seen what Governor Okorocha saw few years back, warranting his departure from APGA to be one of the key progressive actors that came together to midwife the merger that ultimately led to the formation of All Progressives Congress, APC.

“The only exception being Chief Obi’s choice of PDP which does not seem to have any plan for the Igbo race either in the short run or in the long run. One had expected Chief Obi to join APC that has a very bright future for Ndi-Igbo to become the president of the country either now or in the nearest future.

“Again, taking cognizance of the fact that notable progressive Igbo politicians that had come and gone like Chief Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Michael Okpara, Mbonu Ojike, Sam Mbakwe, Ikemba Odimegwu Ojukwu all belonged to progressive parties at their times because the Igbos with their egaliterian and republican dispositions are naturally progressives and a man like Chief Obi should be rooting for progressive parties like APC and not PDP.

“At this point in time, Igbo people should be in the vanguard of progressive vis-à-vis people-oriented politics and government at any level, in the politics of the nation. Chief Peter Obi did well as Anambra state Governor and had displayed the traits of a progressive leader and should not have had any reason to join PDP. It is not late for him to correct the mistake”.
