Rapper Wale Criticized By Americans For Wearing Native Nigerian Wear To Meet Obama

Wale Folarin

Wale was a guest at the White House yesterday for a “beating the odds” summit which aims to encourage kids to sign up for college.

While most will applaud Wale serving as a positive role model for American youth, a lot of Americans chose to criticize Wale’s choice of dressing rather, which was a custom made Igbo attire popularly known as Etibo made by Zini Couture, who also makes attires for Olamide and the YBNL crew.

He was criticized for not looking ‘professional’ enough.

Wale and ObamaUnfortunately for the (probably bigoted) critics, Wale actually changed into that attire for his performance. While giving a talk during the lecture part of the summit, he was dressed conventionally in dress shirt and slacks.
Not like there was anything wrong in the Etibo anyway.
Wale and Michelle1Wale and MichelleWale and Michelle2Wale’s response to the criticism was,
Presentable? I performed in a Nigerian native top & hard bottoms. @Zinicouture is presentable. Suit to perform? No.
