A man in Lagos has been arrested by the police after he was accused of stealing money from his wife.

Taiwo Rufus, a trader, is said to have taken N500,000 of his wife, Esther’s money and disappeared with it.

The suspect, who has been charged for the crime before an Oshodi Magistrate court, has not been able to refund the money.

Punch reports:

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that Rufus, 54, who resides at No. 4, Oremeji Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, committed the offence on May 20 at his residence.

The accused stole the money his wife kept inside her wardrobe and disappeared to an unknown destination,” he said.

Olatunde said when the complainant discovered that her money was missing, she called her husband on the telephone, but he refused to pick her calls.

“The accused also refused to come home and all efforts the complainant made to retrieve her money failed,” he said. The prosecutor said the accused was arrested 10 days after his disappearance.

He said the offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
