2014 Commonwealth Games: Nigeria’s First Gold Medalist Chika Amalaha Fails Doping Test

Amalaha, who clinched Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, has failed a doping test.

She trumped other competitors like Dika Toua from Papa New Guinea and Santoshi Matsu from India, who won silver and bronze respectively.

The weightlifter, who was born October 28, 1997, pulled a total of 196 points in snatch and clean and jerk in the 53kg.

After winning the competition, she told reporters: “It was hard work, training, a lot of pain.”

The teenager has now been provisionally suspended.

CGF chief executive Mike Hooper said Amalaha, 17, tested positive for diuretics and masking agents after winning gold in the 53-kilogram (117-pound) division last Friday July 25th.

The backup "B'' sample will be tested tomorrow Wednesday July 30th.
