Senator Aisha Al-Hassan has made history as Nigeria’s first female governorship aspirant.
She is running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Taraba State, NAN reports.
Al-Hassan, who defeated former Governor Jolly Nyame in the Senatorial election of 2011, won the APC governorship primaries with a landslide.
She scored 2,425 votes to beat Ibrahim Tumba, Julde Suleiman and Yusufu Akirinkwe who polled 18, 5, and 14 votes respectively.
In a recent interview with NAN
in Jalingo, she stated that only an aggressive grassroots development
approach would fast track progress in lifting the lives of the majority
of residents of the state.
“The majority of our people live in the
rural areas. Therefore, the concentration of projects and programmes of
our government should be at the grassroots,” she said.
Senator Aisha Al-Hassan is 54 years of age, a legal practitioner by training and she is married with kids
