Emmanuel Adebayor has converted to Islam in a ceremony recorded and posted to YouTube.
The Tottenham striker, 31, is seen wearing white robes taking part in the Shahada, a ceremony in which one declares belief in 'the oneness of Allah and acceptance of Muhammad as his prophet'.
It appeared the former Arsenal, Man City and Real Madrid forward was a practising Christian until recently, after he posted pictures of himself with a priest to Facebook with captions praising God.
More recently, the Togolese international uploaded pictures of himself doing charity work at the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) house in his home country.
Adebayor has also had a series of well publicised family issues and was recently given compassionate leave from Spurs after posting descriptions of them onto his Facebook page.
He was linked with a move to Turkey last month, but promptly rubbished the rumours on his Twitter account, stating that he was happy at Tottenham.
He has has yet to comment on the recent video.
