Man to wed late ‘wife’ stings to death by scorpion in Ebonyi

A funeral scene

The family of a deceased woman has suspended her burial rites until her ‘boyfriend ’ who she was cohabiting  with  as unofficial husband and wife performs her  traditional and wedding marital rites.

The woman Chinyere Mbam was  stung to death by a scorpion  while returning from the wake-keep of her friend, Oge Ogashi who passed on.

Mbam was returning from a wake-keep of her friend, Oge Ogashi, who had passed on, when she was bitten by the scorpion.

She was taken to a traditional healing home in the area for treatment and thereafter sent back to the husband’s home where she gave up the ghost when she failed to respond to treatment.
Her uncle, Ishiali Ikwe, who confirmed her death, said the late Chinyere Mbam was trekking back home after attending a wake keep of her friend when she was stung by the scorpion.

“My sister was returning home after her late friend’s wake-keep when something stung her foot. She said she later saw a big scorpion when she looked down at the cause of the pain but was unable to kill it as the pain was so serious.
“So she was rushed to a place in our village for traditional treatment. She didn’t respond to all the treatment given to her and she was later rushed back home where she died.”

But the deceased’s family have mandated his ‘husband’ Stephen Mbam of  Enyi Igwe village Ezzainyimagu community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State, to carry out her traditional marriage rites before she is buried.
