17-year-old Nigerian girl jumps into Hudson River after cheating scandal (PICTURED)

A Nigerian teenager resident in the United States of America is said to have attempted suicide by jumping into the Hudson River.

17-year-old high school student, Omotayo Adeoye, a resident of the Bronx, is said to have been distraught after a cheating scandal.

This was what allegedly led her to jumping off the George Washington Bridge on Thursday.


According to Sahara Reporters:

The attempted suicide, say police, occurred Thursday Afternoon at about 3:30 pm New York time. Eyewitnesses told police that Adeoye was seen jumping from the bridge, and hitting the Hudson River shortly thereafter.

She was still alive from the long jump into the murky waters below, surfacing shortly afterwards.

Astonishingly, Adeoye had survived and, SaharaReporters was told, she was seen swimming towards the New York bank of the Hudson. Other witnesses told police that she was shortly swept away by the strong currents of the river.

Police officials told SaharaReporters that Adeoye is “still considered missing” at the time of this report. Their investigation in this case is ongoing.

Officials at the High School of Math and Science, where the gifted student attended, and also at the Brooklyn-based New York High School Superintendent’s office, would neither confirm or deny the incident to a SaharaReporters correspondent.
