SAD NEWS: JULIUS BERGER CONVOY KILLS TWO CHILDREN IN CROSS RIVER

Tragedy struck on Sunday in Ugep, the headquarters of Yakurr local Government Area of Cross River State as a convoy of Three Hilux trucks belonging to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc with one bearing registration number Abuja RBC 702 XA rammed into two waiting under age children and killed them instantly along Ikom/Calabar highway, Ugep.

Eye witnesses account that the two children who were between the age of 8 and 12 before meeting their untimely death were coming from the Church after attending the weekly Sunday worship at the Assemblies of God Church Ugep, before the incident occurred.

The accident was said to have occurred at about 3:30pm,with the driver of one of the affected Hilux and a ‘white man’ occupant were beaten mercilessly by Irate youths before the police arrived the scene.

The Driver was later taken to the police station for custody while the white man who was to resume at the Julius Berger Quarry at Akamkpa was hidden in the church for safety.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO)Ugep who refused to give his name was on hand with his men to calm the situation with efforts to rescue the white man from being lynched as at the time of filling this report.

The DPO who lamented how the youth could have killed the white man said the Division does not have a single Patrol Van. He said if there were to be patrol van, his men would have mobilized to take away the foreign citizen from mass attack.

“The Problem we are facing here to rescue the white man is as a result of lack of patrol van as none of the officer would like to release their private vehicle because of attack by the waiting youths.

“If it were to be official Police Van, they will be afraid to attack the police van because they know the consequences” The DPO said.
