Touched by the plight of children of Staff of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in finding very suitable crèche close to their work place the Parishioners of the Chapel of The Healing Cross, Idi-Araba have completed and handed over a N14m crèche to the management of the hospital.

At a brief ceremony to mark the dedication and handing over, the Vicar of the Church, Venerable Tunde Osho noted that the decision to build a crèche for the hospital came to the fore in 2012 when church members donated a N6m cardio vascular equipment in 2012.

“We found it needful then to donate a Staff Crèche as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the church which was in 2013.

“The delay in handing over of the N14m Staff crèche has been largely due to construction logistics”, said Venerable Osho.

The Vicar observed that the project was embarked upon since it has become apparent that the impact of the church on the society is immeasurable.

According to him, “The Chapel has been part of the LUTH community since almost the beginning of its inception and has therefore been performing its social responsibility to the community.

“Our 50th anniversary however afforded us a greater opportunity to plough back, some of the blessings we have received from God over the years. The donation and the earlier equipment as requested by the administration are therefore our own little contribution to society for God’s glory”, said Osho.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Chris Bode expressed gratitude to the church for the gesture and promised to immediately set up an implementing committee to furnish and equip the crèche so it can be put to immediate use for the benefit of children of the staff.

He pointed out that prior to the commissioning of the new crèche, staff have had to make do with a privately owned crèche located in the premises while some have had to engage services of nannies to look after their children.

He said with the new crèche located in the heart of the hospital, it would now be possible for young mothers to be dedicated to their work while they have the peace of mind that their children are safe at the crèche.
