Turkish Airlines (THY) flight attendant Selda Durmaz has lost her life on Friday night in an Istanbul hospital as a result of a mosquito bite in Nigeria, while she was on duty. Durmaz flew with THY to Nigeria’s capital city of Lagos.
Selda Durmaz was initially diagnosed with flu when she went to a hospital after her return to İstanbul due to a high fever, the private Doğan news agency said.
Durmaz sought another examination at THY's medical unit as the symptoms persisted. She was then diagnosed with malaria and later admitted into a private hospital in Bahçelievler district.
She was receiving treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit but died at 1:30 a.m. early on Saturday.
Her body is due to be buried in the northern province of Bartın, Doğan said.
