President Goodluck Jonathan in Paris for a security summit has said the latest attack by terrorists “is a wake up call for all of us. A line has been drawn in the sand, a test is put to each of us”.
Jonathan was reacting to an attack on a Chinese national who was killed and 10 others kidnapped after an overnight attack in northern Cameroon believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram militants from Nigeria, a police said on Saturday.
Tweeting Jonathan’s deliberations at the summit, Presidential Spokesman, Mr Reuben Abati noted that the President said Insurgency is no longer a challenge to Nigeria alone; it is a threat to each and every one of us.
Jonathan said “Nigeria will rise up to this challenge & prevail. I call upon each one of you to stand up &be counted with us”
The President added, an attack on one country is an attack on all of us and our common humanity.
“We will not succumb to terrorists and their dangerous tactics.Terrorists will not be allowed to define who we are” Jonathan Concluded.
Boko Haram Islamists attacked a camp (of road workers). A Chinese was killed. Ten Chinese cannot be found since the attack. We think they have probably been kidnapped,” a local police chief said on condition of anonymity.
President Goodluck Jonathan arrived France for a security summit, where he is expected to meet with leaders and representatives neighboring West African countries at a Paris summit for Nigeria’s Security.
The summit focused on peace and security in Africa as France prepared to launch its second military intervention in the African continent in a year.
