The Sabon Tasha Unit of the Kaduna Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps, on Thursday returned N419,290 to the family of Mufutau Salami, who died in an auto crash in the state.
While calling on motorists to avoid dangerous driving, the Unit Commander, Muhammadu Ogoshi, presented the said money to the family of the deceased at the Mararaban Rido area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Ogoshi said it was the culture of the corps to return anything found with accident victims to his or her family, adding that the commission would not not tamper with accident victims’ property.
According to the commander, the victim loaded some cartons of beer from Airforce Mammy Market to a beer depot in Sabo Tasha along the new Kaduna Road when the accident occurred.
He said the victim died before FRSC operatives, who arrived at the scene, could rescue him, adding that FRSC patrol team removed the victim’s body and took it to the Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri in the state capital.
Ogoshi explained that the crash might be due to over speeding or loss of control, noting that the ban on commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, in Kaduna State, had reduced accident cases significantly.
The commander said, “My men recovered N419,290 and other property from the vehicle and have handed it over to the relatives of the deceased.
“The deceased wife, Mrs Binta Omwumi Salami, received the money and properties on behalf of her family.
“It is the culture of FRSC,we don’t play with accident properties and money. We are very conscious of that. We don’t receive bribe too”
The deceased wife,Mrs Binta Salami in her response, commended the FRSC for their patriotism and honesty in handling accident victims belongings.
