The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has dismissed the rumour making the rounds that the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano will be disqualified for obtaining two voters card.
One Nnamdi Umeasiegbu of Human Rights and Electoral Watch, Awka, claimed that Obiano procured INEC voter’s card in Lagos sometime ago and also went ahead to procure another voter’s card at his home town Aguleri to enable him vote in Anambra State, thereby registering twice with the INEC.
But when Daily Post correspondent visited the INEC office on Monday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Eze Onukogu who though objected to an interview said it was not true that the commission was going to disqualify Obiano.
He rather urged people to thoroughly verify their information before making them open.
News of the obtaining of double registration in Lagos and Aguleri his home town by Obiano had initially thrown fear in the minds of members of APGA as they discussed it in hush tone in public places, while opposition members had rejoiced that it would provide easy sail for their candidates
