But for the armed military men, the former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu,  would have been seriously embarrassed during Friday’s inauguration of the new governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello.

When Former Governor Aliyu appeared at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium, venue of the inauguration, for the swearing in ceremony, the crowd showed their displeasure.

The people started booing,  throwing stones at him and calling him names.

The military men sensing danger released several gunshots and tear gas to scare them and smuggled him out of the stadium.

Aliyu’s convoy had arrived the inauguration venue by 10.15 a.m., only to be faced with unfriendly crowd.

As soon as he climbed the podium to take the salute of the military guard, shouts of “Barawo,”  “Thief,”  “Ole” “Change has come,”  “Your time is past, go,” rent the air.

Sensing danger, the organisers of the ceremony had to drop the ex-governor from making speech as earlier planned on the programme.

The outgoing Secretary to the State Government, Seidu Ndako Kpaki, spoke on behalf of the government.

By 11 a.m. when the new governor was taking oath of office and oath of allegiance, Aliyu who sat beside his deputy,  Ahmed Musa Ibeto, for the first time in the public since the latter dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, was pelted with slippers and a sachet water, forcing his security details to form human shield around him.
