A man who claimed to have been duped by “a Hausa man” he met at FCMB has been whisked away by Lagos police officers after causing a scene at the bank.
Lagos State police have so far refused to answer our queries on what they intend to do with the alleged victim.
The man was locked out of the bank. Eyewitnesses said he cried like a baby. |
The chaotic incident happened, Monday, at the Trade Fair Complex branch of FCMB in Lagos.
Details are still sketchy.
Eyewitnesses accused FCMB of shielding the Hausa man.

According to reports, the alleged victim said he went to the FCMB branch last Friday to buy some dollars.
The bank reportedly told him there was not enough dollars for sale.
A Hausa man the “victim” met inside the bank told him he had $30,000 to sell. So the man followed him to his office and they reached a deal after which he was allegedly handed $30,000.
The two men returned to FCMB where the alleged victim reportedly transferred the naira equivalent of $30,000 into the Hausa man’s account.
The alleged victim later found out he had purchased fake dollars. It was Friday. He made the discovery when he got home by 7:00 p.m. He had to wait till Monday to go back to the bank.
Monday morning came. He went to the Hausa man’s office and told him about the fake dollars.
The Hausa man reportedly confirmed the money, which he said he bought from FCMB, was fake.
Both men went to the bank and laid their complaint. The bank denied selling the Hausa man the fake dollars, reports say.
That was when the alleged victim started shouting, reports say.
Bank security men allegedly pushed him outside and poured tear gas him.
The man removed his clothes and started crying, reports say.
The security men allegedly locked the gates with the Hausa man still inside the bank.
Concerned bystanders demanded the bank provide the Hausa man and the security officer who poured tear gas on the alleged victim but the bank refused, reports say.
The bank’s refusal angered the people. They started protesting outside the bank gate.
Someone called the police who came to the scene and took the alleged victim away in their vehicle.
The Hausa man was nowhere to be found before the eye witness left the scene
