Robbers rape patients, hospital staff


Robbers have stormed a private hospital in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. In their wake, they left traumatized victims. The robbers not only robbed patients on admission and personnel of the health facility, Amazing Grace Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, they reportedly raped some of the female victims.

However, nemesis has caught up with two of the robbers – Demola David and Dare Oladunjoye.
They are part of the 10 suspected armed robbers arrested by the police in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area. David and Oladunjoye were said to have earlier shot dead one Alayande Oladipo on the same date.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed this in a statement yesterday, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday at Olisa Street, Ijebu-Ode. Adejobi said that the other eight suspects were nabbed after a fierce shootout between them and the police.


He explained that the police operatives attached to Igbeba Division acted on a tip-off that armed men were seen at Molipa/Ikanga area in Ijebu-Ode about 5:30am on Saturday. He said: “The police operatives attached to Igbeba Division of the command swung into action immediately the information got to them and rushed to the said area where the suspected armed robbers opened fire on the police operatives who responded with heavy fire power which curtailed the men before eight of them were arrested.”

The PPRO disclosed that the leader of the gang, one Ayomide Muruf, alias Sucker, sustained bullet wound in the battle. He added: “Other members of the gang arrested included Kayode (surname yet unknown) alias Small; Tunde Ruben, Tomiwa Adekoye, Adeyemi Adegoke, Kufe Emmanuel, Moses Udoh and Akeem Adenrele alias Polo while some of the robbers escaped with bullet wounds.”
Adejobi noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had commended the police operatives who were involved in the successful operation. He said Ali had directed that the suspects be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile, armed robbers at the weekend in Abeokuta invaded the residence of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ogun State. The lodge is located behind Staff Development Centre, Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The robbers reportedly stole valuables, including undisclosed amount of cash, 10 laptops and 25 mobile phones. The incident occurred about 3:00am on Saturday. Some of the victims, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the bandits, numbering four, escaped through a footpath after the robbery.
